In celebration of Greg Weatherby's book of poems being published the English Department at SUNY Cortland set up a poetry reading of his works. Jack Carr, Rasheem Ford, Heather Bartlet, along with myself read a poem each from his recent collection. I always am honored to read the work of my peers and I hope we all did Gregg's words justice.
I've just been informed that I am the winner of the Nelson music scholarship of $500.00. I'm so honored for this award, and it will go to my well spent education!
This afternoon the department held auditions for three music scholarships; a $1000 Nelson, a $500 Nelson, and a $1500 Griffes award. Along with an essay outlining my academic, extracurricular, and musical achievements, I also had to prepare five songs.
"Wouldn't it be loverly" - My Fair Lady
"The Black Swan" - The Medium (Menotti)
"New Year's Eve" - Frank Losser
"Love, Look Away" - Flower Drim Song
"What's the Use of Wonderin'?" - Carousel
They only asked for the first three, but I was prepared for all of them. The entire music faculty was present, and Eichard Montgomery was the accompanist.
This is my way of keeping everyone up to date on what I'm doing, feel free to respond with your questions, comments, and thoughts.
